Is this slightly demented? Yes, it is. Is this fun? Yes, it is. Will this create a wonderful interrupt of the everyday monotony? Yes, it will. And that’s F’in glorious.
We’ve talked about it before… interesting comes from conflict.
Adventure isn’t very far behind.
If this is all news to you and it’s your first time here, check out this post to get a little background on why this is effective.
The people at DavidShrigley.com have a great idea that I’d like to build on. Here’s their version:
At Work:
Place a little yellow sticky note underneath the keyboard of a co-worker. Preferrably one that is completely unconsciously cocky. The note will read:
“I know what happened. I know that you know that I know. But you don’t know that I have pictures. Email 126.45.76.887@gmail.com for instructions.”
Of course, this email does not exist. (Not that I know of anyway.) 1 week later follow up with:
“I haven’t gotten your email. WTF man?! Email me or 1 jelly bean will get it each day you don’t email. I think you know what I mean by ‘jelly bean.’”
You can choose a jelly bean, marshmellow peep – any candy that is readily available and easy to mark on. The best is to draw a surprised face on your candy and then blindfold it. Take a picture and put this little printed picture underneath the second yellow sticky note.
Do this picture every day for 1 week. It’s morbidly obvious that there’s really no action they can take. (sly grin) On the last day, leave a final sticky note:
“The [candy of your choice] are all dead. Not cool man. Not cool.”
Is this slightly demented? Yes, it is. Is this fun? Yes, it is. Will this create a wonderful interrupt of the everyday monotony? Yes, it will. And that’s F’in glorious.
Note: Leave it at that. If you give any notion that you were behind it, it will be impossible to repeat this fun adventure again or anyone similar to it. Just relish that you know – they don’t and you’re a bad ass even if you do imbellish in the occassional silliness adventure.
