I have a new hero, her name is Julia Niles.


If you ever feel that life is tough, unfair, hard to overcome – listen to her story. She’s funny, full of life, love and most importantly adventure.

While perusing one of my favorite stores, Backwoods Adventures in Oklahoma City I came across a flyer advertising a talk and slide show by rock climber, Julia Niles.  I didn’t really know who she was and to be honest I’m not a rock climber. (Though, I’d love to be it just hasn’t happened yet.)

One thing caught my eye: “Get up & Follow Your Passion.” Well, that’s damn near a challenge! What does this young thing know about that??

There’s so many great events Julia has accomplished I want to list here but it wouldn’t really do her justice. She took on the Grand Traverse of the Tetons 6 months after having half of her left lung removed from a tumor, achieved a world recognized AMGA rating and has kept a passionate heart through some very harrowing obstacles and losses.

Here’s the thing, if you have an opportunity to see her talk and watch her presentation, do it. No matter what you enjoy doing, if you’re athletic or not, there is no doubt that her sweet and gentle nature in person and her overwhelming daring and strength that she shows by how she lives her life may change the way you view things – for the better, probably forever.
