I was fortunate enough to attend the Miss Kansas 2009 pageant in Pratt Kansas this weekend. As exciting at the night was (Click here to check out my personal blog about the night in more detail) it was learning about Miss Kansas 2008, Emily Deaver that really caught my attention.

Emily competed for the first time last year and won. Her story could have only helped her. She had been consumed by alcohol and drugs for a few years of her life. Admist personal demons she found the strength to overcome them and completely turn her life around.

According to many that were there, no one expected her to win - not even her family was expecting it because it was her first attempt.

Not suprisingly, her platform was alcohol and substance abuse.

After the competition, prior to announcing the results for Miss Kansas 2009, Emily gave a final goodbye song and short speech. She briefly told her story, what she had gone through, how she had overcome and I have to admit I was ALL goosebumps and many were ALL tears. It was incredibly emotional and uplifting. Here’s a pic of Emily receiving flowers from her family and friends during her final good bye.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find much online describing her story. Which is a shame because it could inspire so many people. There is this article that gives a little more description.

If you have a story of someone who overcame obstacles, please email admin@redefinetheexperience.com so that we may share the story with others.
